What to Expect During Tooth Extraction
Before your tooth is removed, our dentist will take x-rays to see its position. This helps plan the best way to remove it without causing problems for your jaw.
To make sure you are comfortable during the procedure, our dentist will numb your gums and the area around your tooth. Then, they will gently loosen your tooth and take it out. Sometimes, if your tooth is hard to remove or growing in at an angle, our dentist might need to make a small cut in your gum, remove some bone, or take out the tooth in pieces. This is more common with wisdom teeth. But even if your tooth is tricky to remove, our extractions are usually not very painful and you will recover quickly.
When a tooth falls out or is taken out, your jawbone can start to shrink. To stop this, our dentist might do a socket preservation procedure. They will put a small piece of artificial bone in your tooth socket and stitch up the gums. This makes a better base for your new tooth.
After the tooth is taken out, we want to fix your smile and how your teeth work as soon as we can. We have many options for replacing missing teeth, like dental implants. Implants can stop your jawbone from shrinking because the metal posts in them tell your jaw to make more bone. Even before your tooth is taken out, our dentist will talk to you about your options for replacing it. They will help you choose the best treatment for your health, budget, and how you want your teeth to look.
